Hoeneß calms the Klopp debate: „The best solution we have“ | OneFootball

Uli Hoeneß’s comments about the new German national team coach, Jürgen Klopp, recently caused quite a stir. While the Bayern Munich chairman respects Klopp as a coach, he doesn’t believe Klopp is the Messiah. Now, however, Hoeneß has backtracked a bit. 

“I’m not a big fan of hero worship. He’s already being treated as if he can walk on water. He can’t change everything just by laying his hands on someone,” Hoeneß explained at the time in an interview with Sky and RTL. 

One thing in particular really bothered Hoeneß: “What I don’t like about this whole situation is that his agent, Marc Kosicke, was brought in as part of the deal. I’m not exactly sure what he’s supposed to do there. I think that’s a problem. The whole thing strikes me as a ‘friendly takeover.’”

Hoeneß is looking forward to talks with Klopp

At the SportBILD Awards, the honorary president of FC Bayern once again commented on the new national team coach, who will make his debut on the sidelines in September.

“He’ll certainly work very hard and do many things differently, which would undoubtedly improve a lot of things. But you have to give him time,” said Hoeneß, who had already stated in the original interview that he holds Klopp in the highest regard as a coach.

He has now made that point even clearer. “He’s the best solution we could have in Germany. I hope he ultimately lives up to the advance praise. I’ll meet with him at some point, and we’ll have some very good conversations,” Hoeneß explained.

Hoeneß’s latest comments should finally ensure that the waters are calmed. Especially since it didn’t seem as though Klopp was really holding those remarks against the honorary president of the record-holding champion. The stage is thus set for a productive exchange.
