Hoeneß: “Harry Kane is the biggest transfer we have ever made!”

Uli Hoeneß hailed Bayern Munich’s successful season after the Bavarians secured a 3-0 victory over Stuttgart in Saturday’s DFB-Pokal final in Berlin.

The former Bayern president praised both the team and head coach Vincent Kompany for delivering silverware after a dominant campaign.

“The team and the coach definitely deserved this victory after a season like this.”

Hoeneß also reserved special praise for Harry Kane, calling the England captain Bayern’s greatest-ever signing following another decisive display in a major final.

“Harry is Harry, and he is the biggest transfer we have ever made. When you score as many goals as he does, you automatically become number one in Germany.”

The 74-year-old was, however, highly critical of the repeated pyrotechnic interruptions during the final, describing the scenes inside the Olympiastadion as unacceptable.

“What the spectators did today is outrageous. If the fans think pyrotechnics are their way of celebrating, then I’m no longer on board with football. Something has to happen to stop it. It interrupted the game massively and it simply isn’t nice.”

Hoeneß also backed sporting director Max Eberl amid recent speculation over his future at the club.

“A manager’s work does not depend on how the team plays or whether it wins. We are very satisfied with Max Eberl. During the summer we have to decide what the future of FC Bayern Munich looks like. That decision is huge and it has to be made correctly.”

Asked about the presence of José Mourinho in Berlin, Hoeneß dismissed any suggestion that Bayern players could follow the Portuguese coach elsewhere.

“Mourinho was only here to observe FC Bayern for next season, and he’s welcome to do that. But players? He won’t be getting any of ours anyway.”

Hoeneß also commented on the German national team and reiterated Bayern’s support for national coach Julian Nagelsmann ahead of the World Cup.

“We assured Nagelsmann of our full support, but in our society every piece of professional criticism is immediately treated like a scandal. With this squad, if the team grows together, then Germany can go far.”
