With great excitement and plenty of energy, FC Bayern Women started their 2026 winter training camp on Friday. Like last year, the Seville region is the chosen destination again – the bustling metropolis in southern Spain, whose mild temperatures offer the perfect conditions for intensive training sessions. The squad will be taking advantage of the facilities on site until Friday as they step up preparations for the second half of the season. Head coach José Barcala and his side have a clear aim: the team should be best equipped for the upcoming challenges in the Bundesliga, DFB Cup and UEFA Women’s Champions League. fcbayern.com gives you a full round-up of the first sessions in Spain.
Having arrived in Seville around midday on Friday following a three-hour flight, Pernille Harder, Momoko Tanikawa and Co started with a short but effective opening session, which mostly served to shake off any jet lag and get familiar with the local conditions.
The German double winners then had their first big training session of the camp on Saturday morning. After an intensive warm-up in the gym, it continued with a varied routine, featuring passing accuracy, tactical drills, five-a-side and the classic rondo. That was followed by the second session of the day in the afternoon.
The positive mood on the training pitch was clearly noticeable – everyone worked with enthusiasm and determination. As well as the technical and tactical elements, the group session created a good atmosphere and team spirit. The entire team are working together this way to ensure they’re well prepared for the challenges ahead.
Captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir, who recently extended her contract with Bayern, also enjoyed the first couple of session in the south of Spain. “It’s really nice to train in these great conditions, the sun is good for all of us,” said the defender. “We only arrived yesterday and already have the first training sessions under our belt. Even though we were a bit tired from the journey, we trained with a lot of quality straight away. Today was even better, we’ve improved bit by bit.” The Icelander has a clear aim with her team for the coming days: “We want to get back into a good rhythm after the short winter break. We have a few specific things that we want to work on.” Alongside the sporting focus, the 30-year-old also appreciates the special togetherness of a training camp. “We can spend a lot of time as a team here – not just on the pitch but also outside training. That’s the best bit for me personally. That way we can work on our targets together and grow as a team.”
Also involved in the training camp is Bernadette Amani, who signed for Bayern Women this week. The 28-year-old Ivory Coast captain has arrived from Spanish top-flight club CD Tenerife Femenino and will bolster the double winners’ midfield.
Edna Imade will also link up with her new teammates shortly. The 25-year-old Spanish international played her final match for Real Sociedad in a thrilling 5-5 draw against Atlético Madrid on Saturday, signing off in style with a hat-trick. The centre-forward is due to arrive at the training camp at the start of this week.
Three young talents from the reserve team are also taking part in the training camp in Andalusia: Luzie Zähringer, Marie Gmeineder and Sophie Klein have the chance to prove themselves all week. Zähringer has already made her Bundesliga debut this season, while Gmeineder made her bow for the first team in the DFB Cup against Ingolstadt. Goalkeeper Klein joined FCB from FV Biberach last summer and has featured nine times in the second division since then.
For head coach Barcala, it’s not only his second training camp with the team but also a special week back in his homeland. “The atmosphere here has something special, and the conditions could hardly be better – a perfect setting to start the second half of the season,” said the Spaniard. “The weather and the excellent training facilities give us as a team the chance to draw renewed strength for the upcoming tasks. It’s the ideal environment for us to grow together and go into the next challenges with full energy.”
These positive impressions are also evident within the team. "The atmosphere in the team is great,” commented Barcala. “Everyone is highly focused and excited to start playing together again. Our goal is to gradually rebuild our physical fitness and stamina. At the same time, we are working on developing our team tactically and introducing new ideas for our game. The training camp offers us a valuable opportunity to spend even more time together, which further strengthens team spirit and harmony.”
