Home double-header against Preußen Münster

Borussia's Junior Bundesliga teams are set for a home double-header against Preußen Münster: the U17s will welcome their counterparts from Münsterland to the Youth Performance Centre at 11:00 CET on Saturday, while the U19s will face Preußen are 15:00 CET on Sunday.

Following the many English weeks, Mike Tullberg's U19s can now focus exclusively on the Bundesliga up until the winter break. The lads mobilised every ounce of strength in their 0-0 stalemate in Düsseldorf to remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga. With regeneration the focal point at the start of the week, Tullberg has now upped the workload once again. "We're the only Bundesliga team that has not yet lost a match, and the aim is to keep it that way until the winter break," declared the coach. The remaining opponents are VfL Bochum (19/11) and MSV Duisburg (4/12).

He will be without several injured players, however. "Nonetheless, we'll still field a good team and perhaps top up the squad with U17 players," he said. His charges have been sufficiently warned ahead of their meeting with Preußen Münster, who have won each of their last three matches – 1-0 victories against Bonner SC and Viktoria Cologne plus a 3-1 win against RW Essen – with Tullberg saying: "They have amassed a lot of self-belief and have nothing to lose in Dortmund."

With 20 points on the board, BVB occupy second spot in the table behind 1. FC Cologne (21). Behind them in third place are FC Schalke 04 (16). The western champion and runner-up both qualify for the Final Round of the German Championship.

U17s without two top strikers

Borussia's U17s are currently on thin ice and cannot afford any more slip-ups if they do not want to lose sight of second place in the table. The chasing pack behind league leaders Schalke 04 (28 points) is packed closely together, with Arminia Bielefeld (23) and 1. FC Cologne (22) – who both have a game in hand – having climbed above BVB (20 points).

"We feel that we're without 23 goals," said coach Karsten Gorges, in reference to the absence of his top two forwards. Paris Brunner (16 goals) is up front for the U19s, while Alex Niziolek (seven) is out injured until the end of the year. The team have also been without the rub of the green in their recent away defeats to Arminia Bielefeld (3-2) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (1-0), and they will now be hoping to recoup some of that.

The aim against 12th-placed Münster will be to win. Luke Rahmann will return to the squad following a long injury layoff. (wiwi)
