Angelika Marx and Karl-Heinz Körbel were both presented with an honorary membership before Saturday’s home match against Bayern Munich.

In front of a capacity crowd at Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday evening, Eintracht Frankfurt president Mathias Beck, vice-presidents Moritz Theimann and Armin Kraaz, board member for sport Markus Krösche and board member Philipp Reschke recognised Angelika Marx and Karl-Heinz Körbel for their extraordinary loyalty, awarding them the highest possible accolade the club can bestow beyond the football pitch.

‘Geli’ Marx was honoured for her decades-long membership and outstanding voluntary efforts at Eintracht, while ‘Charly’ Körbel was presented with his honorary membership for his remarkable life-long commitment to the Eagles.

The Bundesliga’s record appearance-holder, who played 602 games for Eintracht (scoring 45 goals), has been an integral part of the club for decades. As head of the football school and legends team, Körbel continues to play a vital role as an “idol and role model for a lot of people at Eintracht”, according to Beck. “That’s why I’m delighted we can present these honorary memberships as an expression of our deep gratitude and appreciation,” added the Eagles president.

Unwavering commitment

Marx, who used to watch Körbel’s U19 matches at the old Riederwald stadium, has also been an integral part of the Eintracht family for five decades. A former basketball player for the women’s Regionalliga team, she has been volunteering in that department – and for the club as a whole – for over 30 years. The 66-year-old basketball expert also had a spell as treasurer and continues to play an important role on the department’s board, even acting as secretary at the annual general assembly.

“The club can’t function without people like Geli,” said Beck. “She has shaped our basketball department with great passion over many years. Her voluntary efforts are not only extraordinary, but are a shining example for our entire Eintracht family.”

Eintracht Frankfurt would like to thank Marx and Körbel for their tireless dedication and remarkable loyalty to the club. Here’s to many more years together!
