Genoa and Ukraine international midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi suffered a horrific injury during this afternoon’s Serie A match against Venezia, breaking his ankle.
The former Atalanta and Olympique Marseille man went into a sliding challenge and his studs caught in the turf.
The right ankle was visibly fractured and his teammates were in shock, as well as the Venezia players at the Stadio Penzo.
The player was stretchered off by medical staff and taken straight to hospital, with the entire crowd applauding to wish him well for the future.
It is safe to say the season is over for Malinovskyi, who will likely be out of action for the best part of a year.
The Ukraine international turned 31 in May and is under contract with Genoa until June 2027.
He first came to Italy for Atalanta in the summer of 2019, then moved to Olympique Marseille in January 2023.
Malinovskyi returned to Genoa initially on loan last summer, making the move permanent for €7m.
The attacking midfielder has 27 goals and 25 assists in 148 Serie A appearances.
