Vivianne Miedema could be about to pick up her second WSL title this season, but not all of her time in Manchester has been smooth sailing.

The Dutch attacker tore her ACL in 2022 and it has been a long road to recovery.

Vivianne Miedema early City days

When she moved to Manchester City in 2022, Vivianne Miedema was one of the biggest transfers in WSL history.

The forward was the all-time top scorer in England when she transferred from Arsenal and expectations were high.

Miedema was just coming back from an ACL injury though and her early days in Manchester were a struggle.

Shortly after her move Miedema suffered yet another knee injury and her future as a player was uncertain.

The 29-year-old confessed before Christmas that she was considering retirement after a third surgery on her knee.

“I thought, ‘I’m not sure if I can do this and still want to do this at my age’,” she said. “This season, I think everyone can see I feel like a completely different person and player.”

After fighting through the suffering, Miedema is once again one of the best players in the league.

Dutch star revitalised

When she returned from her third knee surgery expectations of Miedema were low.

But she proved that injuries would not stop her from playing at the highest level as this year has been one of the striker’s best campaigns ever.

Miedema has six WSL goals and five assists so far in what has been an incredible season for the Dutch international.

City are cruising in the league and they look certain to be crowned champions with a 13 point lead atop the table.

Miedema has won one WSL title in her career so far, with Arsenal winning the league in 2018-19.

The veteran proved herself in that title winning campaign as well – finishing the season as WSL top scorer for the first of two consecutive years.

It is great to see Miedema back to her best and City fans will be relieved their superstar didn’t call time on her career prematurely.
