Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has silenced his critics and transformed the doubts surrounding him into admiration at Barcelona since the turn of the year.
After a period of uncertainty, including some boos from the crowd earlier in the season, he has regained his form and confidence, earning applause for his recent performances, especially in the win against Deportivo Alaves.
Far from entertaining thoughts of leaving the club, the former Ajax midfielder has proven his worth, gradually earning his place in the team once again. Although there is still heavy competition in the midfield, the Dutchman seems to be getting back to his best.
His impact was first seen in the second half of the El Clasico in October, where he came on as a substitute and helped Barcelona shift from a 0-0 draw to a commanding 0-4 lead.

Despite facing challenges throughout 2024, including an ankle injury that sidelined him for six months, de Jong has come back stronger.
He showed no fear or hesitation in his recent outings, playing with great personality, particularly in the Alavés match, where he showcased impressive control under pressure.
De Jong is now pushing for a starting spot, with a flawless performance in his last appearance, completing 41 out of 41 passes. His early-season form has reminded fans of the player he was at Ajax in 2018-19 before injuries derailed his campaign.
Though his refusal to accept Barcelona’s renewal offer last year caused some tension, de Jong has refocused and is no longer preoccupied with leaving the club.
Under Hansi Flick, he has found a role that suits him, playing a crucial part in Barcelona’s 4-2-3-1 system. De Jong is now focused on contributing to the team’s success, and with his recent performances, he has become an integral part of the squad once again.
