Deco and co, it is understood, are on the lookout for reinforcements at full-back, potentially as early as January.

Amid concern over the ongoing form of Alejandro Balde and Jules Koundé, Hansi Flick and co. are of the opinion that fresh competition is needed.

A shortlist of potential targets, in turn, has been drawn up behind the scenes at the Camp Nou.

And sitting towards the top, as alluded to above, is Alejandro Grimaldo.

After seeking out his signature over the summer, Barca, it is claimed, are now giving real consideration to launching a fresh assault to reunite with the 30-year-old left-back, who spent time developing in Catalunya’s capital early in his career.

Not only that, but according to Mundo Deportivo, he could be secured on the cheap.

Grimaldo’s contract at the BayArena is understood to contain a reduced release clause for Spanish clubs, set in the region of €15-20 million.
