Morgan Rogers’ future at Aston Villa could become a major talking point, particularly if he can play a role in a successful World Cup campaign for England.

The playmaker has enjoyed a strong season for Unai Emery’s side, contributing eight goals and five assists in the Premier League, with the team competing for qualification for the Champions League.

Rogers has also scored one and assisted two, with the Midlands outfit in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

The 23-year-old spent just half a season at the Riverside before joining Aston Villa in the 2024 January transfer window in a deal worth a reported £15 million.

It’s also been claimed that Middlesbrough negotiated a big sell-on clause as part of their agreement with the Premier League side, which will keep the Teessiders on red alert as they dream of netting a further windfall in the not-too-distant future.

It has been reported by Teamtalk that Chelsea are eyeing a major push for Rogers this summer in a bid to bolster their attacking options.

It’s believed that Aston Villa are going to seek a record-breaking sale price for the player in order to be tempted into his departure.

The Midlands outfit previously agreed a record-breaking deal worth £100 million for Jack Grealish with Manchester City, so that is the figure the Blues will have to beat in order to secure the playmaker’s signature this summer.

It remains unclear the exact size of Middlesbrough’s sell-on clause, but if it is over 10 per cent, then that could generate an eight-figure sum for the club regardless of whether they gain promotion this season or not.

Rogers joined Boro from Manchester City in the 2023 summer transfer window, and he contributed two goals and six assists from 26 appearances in the Championship prior to his move to Villa Park.

The Teesside outfit are now in the fight for automatic promotion to the Premier League under Kim Hellberg.

Middlesbrough are second in the table, two points clear of third place Ipswich Town, albeit they have played a game more than their rivals.

League leaders Coventry City are seven points clear, with both teams having eight games remaining in the league.

Next up for Hellberg’s side is a trip to face relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers on 21 March in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Morgan Rogers sell-on fee could be very valuable for Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough could do very well out of Rogers’ sale this summer, if it comes to fruition, as he has become a hot commodity in the transfer market.

It’s believed that Liverpool and Arsenal are also interested in the player, alongside Chelsea, so that could lead to a major bidding war for his services.

A good World Cup from him would raise his profile even further, so a sale beyond the £100 million mark could be realistic from Aston Villa’s point of view.

Rogers also has a contract until the summer of 2031, so the Premier League side have a lot of leverage going into the upcoming transfer market, meaning it is far from guaranteed that he will be sold this year as well.
