The defender has made the switch to Ewood Park after a disappointing loan spell with the Blues in the first half of the campaign.

The centre-back started on just three occasions for Chris Davies’ side in the Championship, making a further eight appearances from the bench.

Cashin joined Birmingham on loan in the summer from Brighton after struggling for game time in the Premier League in the second half of last season.

The 24-year-old will now be aiming to get back to playing regularly as part of Valerien Ismael’s side, joining the team for the remainder of the campaign.

Cashin has posted on his personal Instagram page that he is excited for the next step in his career after sealing a loan move to Blackburn for the rest of the term.

He has outlined that his focus has not changed, as he looks to help the club avoid relegation from the Championship under Ismael, with the side at risk of sliding into the bottom three in their current form.

“New challenge, same focus,” wrote Cashin, via Instagram.

“Excited to get started!!”

Cashin made the switch to Brighton last January in a deal with Derby County worth a reported £9 million, signing a contract that runs until June 2030.

But he made just two appearances in the Premier League for Fabian Hurzeler’s side, coming off the bench in a 3-0 loss to Aston Villa, as well as a 4-2 defeat to Brentford in April.

The defender earned a strong reputation during his time with the Rams, even becoming club captain prior to his step up to the top flight, so he will be aiming to rediscover his form with Blackburn, who are 20th in the table.

Next up for Ismael’s side is a trip to face Hull City on 11 January in a 2.30pm kick-off in what could be Cashin’s debut.

Blackburn move could be exactly what Eiran Cashin needs

Cashin’s had a pretty disappointing last 12 months after he had showed a lot of promise at Derby, where he showed he could even step up to the Premier League.

But he was unable to prove to Hurzeler that he deserved regular game time, and his loan at Birmingham similarly left him on the bench rather than the starting lineup.

So moving to Blackburn could be what he needs to get his career back on track, as he should receive plenty of game time under Ismael.

If he can get a run of two or three games in a row to build up his match fitness, then he should be able to prove to everyone again why he was so highly rated at Derby.
