According to TEAMtalk, the 18-year-old’s potential return to Merseyside is not on the Championship side’s radar, with the window set to open in just a couple of weeks.

The teenager made the temporary switch to Deepdale in the summer, and he has proven a key part of Paul Heckingbottom’s first team squad in that time.

Armstrong’s made 14 appearances in the second division, contributing one goal and one assist, with the club competing for promotion to the Premier League.

The midfielder did suffer a groin injury that kept him out of action for a number of weeks, but he has otherwise been a mainstay for the Lilywhites since arriving on loan.

Preston’s Harrison Armstrong January expectation

Preston are reportedly expecting Armstrong to remain at Deepdale beyond the January transfer window despite the possibility he could be recalled by the Premier League side.

It’s understood that Everton are keen for the youngster to continue his development with regular game time, which he is receiving under Heckingbottom.

While a recall clause in his loan deal could see him return to the Hill Dickinson Stadium midway through the campaign, it’s believed that this will not be triggered.

Armstrong previously spent time on loan with Derby County during the second half of last season, where he made 15 appearances in the Championship, and he has also already played four times in the top flight for the Toffees.

Preston will be keen for him to remain in the squad for the second half of this term, with the Lancashire outfit chasing a top two finish in the division.

Heckingbottom’s side are third in the table, seven points adrift of second-place Middlesbrough ahead of their upcoming clash with Norwich City on 20 December.

Preston will receive huge boost from Harrison Armstrong staying

Armstrong has been a standout performer for Preston this season, and the regular game time he’s receiving has been great for his development.

It makes the most sense for all parties if he remains at Deepdale for the remainder of the campaign, particularly as he is still only 18.

He’s shown that he is already a quality Championship calibre talent, and there’s no doubt he could make the step-up to the Premier League in the near future.
