Things never really clicked for Adam Nagy at Bristol City but he’ll likely have few complaints after a positive start to life at Pisa.

The midfielder struggled to translate the form he regularly showed on the international stage with Hungary into strong performances for the Robins and though there were some good moments, you feel letting him leave in the summer window was likely the right decision.

Given how impressive he was at Euro 2020, where he helped his side go toe-to-toe with France, Germany, and Portugal, it was a surprise to see no better offers than Pisa come in before the window closed – but Nagy is unlikely to be regretting his choice right now.

The 26-year-old joined the Italian side late in August and has been a mainstay in the side since the start of September, only missing a game due to a red card suspension.

Pisa have lost just two of their 12 league games since and are currently top of Serie B, a point clear of second-placed Lecce.

Nagy’s form suggests he’s yet to really find top gear in Italy, however, as though he averages 5.65 interceptions per 90, he’s won just 49.3% of his defensive duels and has struggled to contribute much in the final third.

He’s controlled possession well, connecting with 87% of his passes, but has provided just three shots assists, made just four passes to the opposition box, taken three touches in the opposition penalty area, and made just one progressive run (Wyscout).

Nagy can still reach another level but one thing’s for sure, he’s having a better time than his former teammates at Ashton Gate this term.
