Marley Watkins stay with Cardiff City was certainly a brief, if rather eventful, one.
Joining the club on the 10th August 2021 on a short-term deal until the end of the month following a trial period with the Bluebirds, which had come in the wake of his release from Bristol City, the attacker made his debut on the very same day.
That saw Watkins score twice as Cardiff claimed a 3-2 win over League Two side Sutton United in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
Ultimately though, that would prove to be Watkins’ only competitive appearance for the Bluebirds, as it was announced just a week later that Cardiff would not be handing the attacker a new deal.
Following that decision, Watkins moved quickly to find himself a new club, and before the end of August, it was announced that the Welshman had returned to Aberdeen.
Watkins had previously spent a spell on loan with the Scottish Premiership side in 2020, and put pen to paper on a two-year deal that is set to keep him at Pittodrie until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Since then, Watkins has endured something of a frustrating time of things during the more recent months of his latest spell in Scotland.
The attacker had initially enjoyed some regular game time for the Dons, making 14 appearances and scoring three goals for the club.

However, the 31-year-old has not featured since the turn of the year due to a foot injury that is expected to keep him out until next month.
When he does return to action, Watkins will find himself playing under a new manager, with Stephen Glass having been sacked and replaced Jim Goodwin since the attacker last made an appearance for the club.
But with Aberdeen currently eighth in the Scottish Premiership table, eight points clear of the relegation play-offs, Watkins should be confident of getting chances to play top-flight beyond the end of this season at least, once he is back to full fitness.
