West Bromwich Albion added to their attacking firepower over the summer with the addition of Aune Heggebo.

The Norwegian powerhouse arrived at the club for a reported £4.75 million, with a reputation for scoring plenty, too, having netted 18 in 42 Eliteserien games over the past season and a half.

Now, with their new marquee signing and Josh Maja returning to the side at the start of the new season after missing the final four months of the 2024/25 campaign due to a calf injury, Ryan Mason came into his first managerial job with plenty to choose from at the top end of the pitch.

The Nigerian frontman scored 12 in 26 last season and would have been a shoo-in for the league's golden boot if he stayed healthy, and West Brom spent more on Heggebo than they did on anyone else this summer. Therefore, both are seen as key players at the club, but do their weekly wages reflect that?

According to Capology's estimates, both Maja and Heggebo's weekly wages at West Brom are rather similar.

Maja is estimated to earn £17,000 per week, whilst Heggebo brings in an estimated £15,000 per week.

Whilst these numbers are relatively solid Championship-level wages, the Baggies currently have the sixth-highest estimated wage bill in the entire division, so compared to the rest of their teammates, the forward duo's earnings aren't as high as most.

Both Maja and Heggebo rank in the bottom ten for weekly wages at West Brom, with the likes of Nat Phillips and Chris Mepham, two other arrivals this summer, earning more than double, pulling in £40,000 and £35,000 per week, respectively.

What may be more surprising, however, is that neither of these two is the highest-paid striker in the team. Daryl Dike is estimated to hold that honour on £25,000 per week, despite playing just 15 times over the past two Championship campaigns combined.

Josh Maja and Aune Heggebo could be looking for wage hikes with good performances, but they may be battling each other

With Heggebo earning just £1,492 per week with his former club SK Brann, his wage rise at West Brom is still rather large. His contract is set to run out in five years, but there's no doubt that positive performances over the next couple of seasons could see him banging on the door for an improved deal.

Similarly, with Maja, whose contract is up at the end of this season. He'll be looking to replicate his scoring prowess from last term in the hope of securing improved terms next summer.

Ultimately, though, unless Ryan Mason sets West Brom up in a way which accommodates the pair from the off, Maja and Heggebo may have to battle each other for the starting role up top at The Hawthorns.

So far this season, the two haven't started a game up front together, and the two actually replaced each other in recent games against Leicester City and Norwich City.

The main goal for West Brom will be to score as many as possible in the hope of finding themselves back in the top six after a year away, and Ryan Mason has the players in his arsenal capable of doing so.
