How Leeds United’s midfield could shape up amid summer targets

Leeds United’s midfield could change this summer as Daniel Farke looks to build on an impressive 2025/26. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, recruitment staff hold interest in Southampton’s youngster Shea Charles, with further options also being assessed. This is a look at how the unit could shape up if preferred targets arrive.

Midfield is already relatively well stocked, with five core options contributing last season, and Brenden Aaronson dropping deeper when required. That role could face fresh competition, with one free agent eyed and another virtually through the door.

Keep Ethan Ampadu, who signed a new four-year contract earlier this summer, and build the midfield around the captain. Keep Ilia Gruev as natural cover for Ampadu. Leeds might need to sell one midfielder to strengthen, although other more profitable, if harder, avenues can be explored.

Loan Charlie Crew, whose spell at Doncaster Rovers did not go to plan, and at 20 another temporary exit could help his development. Keep Anton Stach after an excellent debut campaign in West Yorkshire, and Leeds will hope he continues to improve with more games.

Sell Ao Tanaka if the right offer comes, banking potential profit on a £3m signing. He was in and out last season and it is clear a new midfielder is wanted. Keep Sean Longstaff, despite the possibility of a quick-profit sale akin to the Glen Kamara move, since his Premier League experience and forward running mirror Stach most closely.
