On October 2nd 2025, Jihad Al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian descent, rammed his car into bystanders before stabbing victims outside a synagogue in Heaton Park during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

Following the incident, the former Manchester United defender uploaded a video onto social media, outlining that he thought the attack was stemmed by “angry middle-aged white men” who are “creating division.”

The Sky Sports pundit and Salford City co-owner also revealed he “instantly” removed a Union Jack flag that had been flying at one of Manchester's building sites.

And now Le Tissier, who is never far away from political controversy himself, has weighed in on Neville’s thoughts, firing back with two comments of his own that have sparked the debate even further.

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier, who scored 209 goals in 540 games on the South Coast, has responded to Gary Neville’s viral video surrounding the Manchester terror attack, believing he will get away with his remarks because of his involvement with the World Economic Forum.

The WEF is a non-profit international organisation that brings together political, business, academic, and societal leaders, while the ex-Saints frontman may also be voicing his frustration given he was sacked by Sky for posts on social media about the COVID-19 pandemic.

In two separate tweets on X, Le Tissier said: “Just seen Gary Neville’s video. Watch the media go after Gary Neville after his video... Oh no, he’s in the WEF [World Economic Forum] club, so they’ll leave him alone,” accompanied by a winking face emoji.

Matt Le Tissier has been someone who always voices his opinion on social media, posting a fair few contentious viewpoints in his time.

He has voiced his grievances over the UK government's digital ID plans, while also weighing in on the Charlie Kirk debate that led to popular US TV talk show host Jimmy Kimmel being suspended in the US, although that has now been overturned.

Now he has turned his attention to Gary Neville’s latest video, and while it’s difficult to read into his exact feelings because of such a short post, it does appear the Southampton icon is in the camp of those criticising the former Manchester United defender’s remarks.

As mentioned, Le Tissier may well be making his feelings known due to other people, including himself, losing jobs for their views, with the now 56-year-old calling into question why Neville may be able to come away unpunished with these comments.

Le Tissier does see himself as an advocate for free speech, so it’s not a surprise to see him storming in and being one of the main figures calling for a punishment to be dished out.
