Jonathan David is one of the players Juventus need to offload in this transfer window, but he wants to remain at the club, meaning there is a chance he might not leave.
Luciano Spalletti has sent him an obvious message through his lack of involvement during the pre-season, indicating that he wants the Canadian to leave. However, David wants to stay and is not looking for a new club if possible.
Juve are desperate for him to leave so there will be space for them to add another attacker to their squad in this transfer window, but the Bianconeri are also concerned that he might not depart.
The club have restructured their wage bill and no longer pays as much as it did before, but David remains one of their biggest earners, and his current salary appears to be one of the main problems surrounding his situation.
The attacker has attracted interest from some clubs, but he earns too much for them to take on his salary from Juventus. Corriere dello Sport claims that his gross salary is worth around 11.5m euros.
That figure makes David the highest-earning player in the Juventus squad, who the club now considers a poor fit. His wages have therefore become a significant obstacle as the Bianconeri look to reshape their squad and create room for another attacker.
Juventus need to find a solution quickly because their plans for the rest of the transfer window could depend on David leaving. The club want to add another forward, but they need space within the squad before they can make that move.
David’s desire to remain at Juventus makes the situation more complicated. Despite Spalletti’s apparent message through his limited involvement during pre-season, the striker has shown no clear indication that he wants to find a new club.
The Bianconeri will therefore need to convince David to accept a move or find a club willing to take on his salary. With his wages standing at around 11.5m euros gross per season, finding a suitable destination could prove difficult.
For now, Juventus remain keen to move David on as soon as possible. His departure would help the club reduce their wage bill, create space in the squad and potentially allow them to bring in another attacker before the transfer window closes.
