The Addicks have been through four owners in the last six years, with a group called Global Football Partners (GFP) buying them in 2023 through their subsidiary SE7 Partners.

This group, led by Gabriel Brener, have appointed Oakwell Sports Advisory to seek potential investors.

GFP paid £15 million to buy Charlton, and under their ownership the team have earned promotion back to the Championship under Nathan Jones.

The London outfit will be aiming to improve on their 19th place finish in the second division last year.

The Championship side have added five fresh faces to the squad this summer, including bringing Karlan Grant back to the Valley after his exit from West Brom.

It has been reported by the Guardian that Charlton have been put up for sale by GFP, and they are looking for a significant profit on the £15 million paid to buy the club in 2023. That's said to be because of the investment in the stadium and training ground, as well as the fact the club are now in the Championship.

However, one complicated factor will be that the Addicks do not own their home ground, with it still belonging to previous owner Roland Duchatelet, who is a remarkably unpopular figure among supporters.

The Championship side currently have a lease on the Valley that runs until 2040, and it is unclear whether Duchatalet would be open to negotiations regarding a sale of the stadium.

Oakwell have previously helped several sports teams change owners, including Premiership rugby side Exeter Chiefs, who were taken over by Bournemouth owner Bill Foley.

It remains to be seen whether Charlton will be able to attract fresh investment at this stage, and how much GFP value the club at exactly.

How Charlton fans feel about another change in owner

Charlton fans are grateful for the progress the team have achieved under GFP, even if they feel it would be disappointing to lose them as owners. Chris (@ChrisWo30990144) said: "**** situation but most stable we've been as a club in a long time and finally got us back to the Championship.

"If their hearts not in it then they can gladly go but not going to forget what they have done. May be short and sweet but best ownership group in years."

Many supporters have voiced their frustration at potentially another takeover saga engulfing the London outfit.

Fans have also suggested that the timing couldn’t be worse, as it could be preventing Jones from getting proper investment in the team in the transfer market.

Charlton’s league campaign will get underway on 15 August with a home clash against Derby County.

Another takeover saga for Charlton Athletic

GFP have brought a lot of much-needed stability to Charlton, so it comes as no surprise that fans are frustrated at another potential sale.

If the owners want many times over what they paid, then it could be a takeover close to the £80 to 100 million mark.

This kind of valuation does reduce the club’s chances of ending up in the wrong hands again, as there are only so many people willing and capable of spending that kind of money investing in a team.
