Sunderland fans delivered a largely glowing verdict on the 1937-inspired home kit after Tuesday's unveiling. Hummel's design goes on sale at 8am on Wednesday.

According to Sunderland Echo, the red and white stripes are paired with a button-up collar, a retro-style crest and black shorts and socks, elements that dominated early reaction on social media.

Supporters lauded the nod to club history, with Chris Liddle welcoming how Sunderland and Hummel embraced the past. Others focused on details, with Charl calling it a masterpiece and highlighting the collar, the badge and the black socks.

The collar drew frequent praise, with Tom Wilcock calling it his favourite feature and Jake Collinson deeming the pop-button look decent. Some felt it might pip last season's Championship home shirt, while KASUTO labelled it another Hummel success.

Lewis’ Football Media went further, predicting it will be an all-time classic, reflecting the popularity of recent heritage-led Hummel kits.

The return of black shorts and socks also landed well, with one fan expecting a striking look under the lights against Italian sides. MACCEM linked the new kit and the recent Elvis-inspired top to hopes of good fortune domestically and in Europe, while Dan Cooke asked about Europa League name sets.

There was criticism too, with Nelios arguing the crest should have been blue to match the 1937 original. David preferred last season’s range, saying the badge spoils the look and that he is not keen on the pink top.
