The Rams have been owned by David Clowes since the summer of 2022 after the club entered into administration and were relegated from the Championship.

Having helped save the club, the 56-year-old provided much-needed steady financial backing which allowed Derby to operate competitively once more and eventually achieve promotion back up to the Championship.

Clowes has admitted on multiple occasions that he is open to investment in the club or an official takeover and the amount of money he is looking for may now have been revealed.

A number of parties have been credited with an interest in purchasing Derby County, with former Crystal Palace shareholder John Textor perhaps the primary candidate.

A fresh report from journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon channel has revealed that Sheffield United backer James Bord, who has been strongly involved in the Blades' controversial AI-scouting strategy, is on the lookout for a new club and could turn to Derby as a result, whilst former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is also keen on taking over the Rams.

Nixon has also now stated that Derby is available for around £60m, which is a valuation that Textor is willing to meet.

Clowes spent £33m on buying the Rams in 2022 and another £22m to buy Pride Park, which means that a £60m sale wouldn’t represent much of a profit. Rams supporters, however, would doubtless love the opportunity for the club to receive stronger and more competitive investment, which could help to propel the side up the table and closer to Premier League contention.

Textor is reportedly putting together the funds for an official offer but could face competition from some of the aforementioned names in the meantime.

Derby County takeover could be swift

If Textor is willing to meet Clowes’ valuation of Derby as Nixon has revealed, there might not be much in the way of the US businessman taking over the Rams quite quickly.

The 60-year-old has experience within the game due to his involvement with Palace and ownership of Brazilian club Botafogo, so he will be well aware of all the processes that he must first go through before being able to purchase Derby.

However, once they are complete, there may be no financial implications that could prevent a deal.

Textor hasn’t been far away from controversy in recent times, with Botafogo demanding an immediate payment of €25m from Textor's holding company in the last week.

He also resigned as Lyon chairman earlier this year, a club he owns 77 per cent of, after they were momentarily demoted to the French second-tier due to poor finances.
