It's been a nightmare year for supporters of Leicester, who, whatever the outcome of this campaign, will want to forget about it as quickly as possible.

Following their relegation from the Premier League last season, fears that they may struggle upon their return to the second tier were raised, though few had predicted them to struggle just as much as they have.

With the end of the campaign on the horizon, the Foxes occupy one of the three relegation places, though with Sheffield Wednesday's relegation already confirmed, that leaves just two spots up for grabs, with each of Oxford United, Portsmouth, West Brom, and Blackburn Rovers closely packed around them.

In any instance, it will be a huge summer for Leicester, who will likely see a mass exodus of players depart the club, something which they must be preparing for.

The latest player linked away is that of Zambian striker Patson Daka, who, according to Turkish outlet Aspor, has been linked with a move to Galatasaray as a potential replacement for Argentine forward Mauro Icardi.

Looking at Leicester's wage bill, it's abundantly clear that the Foxes didn't foresee the situation that they would find themselves in at the moment, with it being a brutal reminder of how volatile the footballing world can be.

Daka joined the Foxes in the summer of 2021 in a £23 million move from Austrian side RB Salzburg until the summer of 2026, and five years later, that contract is set to reach its expiry.

With 27 goals and 17 assists in 158 appearances in Leicester blue, Daka has often flattered to deceive during his stay at the King Power Stadium, with his signing going down as a huge disappointment given his effect, fee, and wages.

According to Capology, the Zambian international earns an approximate £75k p/w at Leicester, and has done so for the past five years, even during both their Championship campaigns.

The Foxes made the huge mistake of not inserting any relegation wage clauses in their players' deals, and given the mess they found themselves in financially, even whilst in the Premier League, resulting in a six-point deduction, it's hardly surprising to see the situation they currently find themselves in.

Daka is the third-highest earner at Leicester according to Capology, with Harry Winks reportedly on an estimated £90k p/w, and Ricardo Pereira on £80k p/w.

A summer exit seems all but inevitable for Daka, whose time at Leicester has gone far from planned, and he will leave the club having made upwards of £16 million across his five-year deal. Given his goal return, he will likely go down as one of the club's worst signings of all time.

Patson Daka will be one of a flurry of exits from Leicester City this summer

What Leicester will look like next season is anybody's guess at this stage, with it still being unclear as to which division they will be playing in.

Alongside Daka, the aforementioned Winks and Pereira are out of contract, whilst Jamaal Lascelles, Jordan Ayew, and Asmir Begovic's contracts are due to expire.

As well as them, five loan deals are set to return to their parent clubs, whilst the futures of the likes of Abdul Fatawu, Stephy Mavididi, and Oliver Skipp are up in the air.

The Foxes demise is a harsh reminder to all clubs across the English football pyramid and the world that no team is safe from suffering a similar fate, with Leicester having won the Premier League less than a decade ago and the FA Cup less than five years ago.

With Galatasaray circling for Daka, numerous other Leicester squad members will likely be poached in any instance this summer, with the 27-year-old's exit almost a foregone conclusion.
