Wolves' first trip to St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park in almost nine years comes this weekend

The 2026/27 Championship season is full of intense local derbies, and one fixture which has been eagerly anticipated is upon us this weekend, as Birmingham City take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park on Sunday lunchtime.

Blues and Wolves will both be hoping to be in and amongst the promotion conversation in this season's Championship, with the pressure firmly on the shoulders of Chris Davies and Cesar Peixoto for various reasons.

Davies is now in the midst of a third season in B9, with a 10th-placed finish last term representing some signs of progress, but even after their promotion from League One, more was still expected from his team.

Wolves, meanwhile, have been heavily fancied for automatic promotion under the newly-appointed Portuguese, with Peixoto still having a strong amount of depth within his squad, even though some experienced figures have departed Molineux over the summer themselves.

And, although this isn't the main rivalry for either set of supporters, it is a must-watch encounter for many neutrals, particularly due to the atmosphere.

However, in the lead-up to this fixture, there has been plenty of uproar regarding ticket costs, but just how much were Wolves fans charged for their allocation in the Gil Merrick Stand?

It is approximately 15 miles from Molineux to St. Andrew's, with this being the first time the two sides have met in any competition since April 15th, 2018, when Wolves secured a 2-0 home win through goals from Diogo Jota and Benik Afobe.

They also won the reverse meeting in the Second City in December 2017 in a televised Monday night clash through a Leo Bonatini strike, and haven't lost to Birmingham in B9 since a 2-1 scoreline in February 2010, when the home side came from behind courtesy of a late Kevin Phillips double.

Wanderers have already played two matches away from home against Preston North End and West Ham United this season, and have already sold out their allocation of 1,985 tickets at St. Andrew's for this weekend's clash.

However, they still had to part with a sizeable sum of cash to attend the match, with an adult ticket costing £37.50, whilst a senior ticket was still £32.

Under-25s and Under-16s would then cost £26.50 and £21, whilst a restricted view seat would see any of the aforementioned prices deducted by £1.

Whilst a sell-out crowd looms, with Birmingham revealing in the lead-up that only limited tickets remain, the home side have also received backlash from their supporters for general admission tickets.

After charging £35 for non season-ticket members to attend the July friendly against FC Barcelona, it was revealed that the cheapest non-family area ticket for the upcoming derby was £37.50, whilst the most expensive home section would see Bluenoses part with £42 of their hard-earned cash.

"What worries me as well is, is this a sign of things to come or are they just pricing it at that because it's a Midlands rivalry?," FLW's Birmingham City fan pundit, Jason Moore, debated last month.

Both sides have made encouraging starts to the Championship season, albeit the midweek round of matches saw Davies and Peixoto's side endure mixed fortunes.

Birmingham's draw-heavy start continued with a 1-1 score against Southampton, meaning they currently sit four places but just one point behind Wolves, who lost 4-2 at West Ham United.

As such, Sunday's game represents a chance for early-season bragging rights to be secured, as well as the opportunity to lay a marker down.

It also isn't the only game of high importance to Wolves fans this month, as two weeks later, they welcome West Bromwich Albion to Molineux in another Sunday lunchtime affair.
