Josh Sargent is set to finally join Toronto FC - but how much will Norwich City be getting from the move? Football League World takes a look...
The Josh Sargent saga at Norwich City has finally reached a crescendo, with the unpopular forward set to seal a long-awaited switch to Toronto FC ahead of the commencement of the 2026 MLS campaign and this summer's FIFA World Cup in North America.
As reported on Friday morning via X by Simon Jones of the Daily Mail, Sargent's move back across the Atlantic is now poised for completion in a huge, and potentially much-welcomed update at Carrow Road following a saga which has left a bitter taste in the mouths of all involved.
A talismanic figure throughout recent campaigns in Norfolk, Sargent scored 13, 16 and 15 goals in each of his last three seasons at Championship level for the Canaries to emerge among the leading forwards outside of the Premier League.
The 29-cap USMNT international, who first arrived at Norwich all the way back in 2021 for a reported £8 million outlay from Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen, was strongly linked with a departure last summer before notably rejecting an approach to return to Germany with Wolfsburg and deciding to stay put instead.
Sargent found the back of the net on seven occasions from 23 league appearances in a difficult first-half of the current campaign for Norwich but ruled himself out of the Canaries' FA Cup third-round tie against Walsall on January 11 and has not featured since.
Indeed, a subsequent report from The Athletic's Tom Bogert detailed that Sargent had played his final game for Norwich following a sour meeting with head coach Philippe Clement and sporting director Ben Knapper, with the 28-year-old described as "visibly upset" and pushing to join Toronto.
The Canaries frontman is now set to receive his wish as the switch edges towards completion, and it has also been revealed exactly how much money Norwich will be receiving for the striker's services...
Jones' aforementioned update has revealed the amount of money which will be coming Norwich's way for Sargent's impending departure to Toronto, with the Canaries evidently having worked hard to negotiate an exit on their terms with a healthy cash windfall included.

As per Jones, a deal has been agreed for Sargent to join Toronto for an initial figure of £15.5 million, with the forward having had a further two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.
That's not the full fee, though, and Rob Butler of BBC Radio Norfolk has added that the deal, all in all, will see Norwich net a sum north of £20 million including add-ons, with Sargent said to be on his way over to Canada to undertake medical proceedings.
Ultimately, of course, Norwich found themselves with no other option than to cash in on Sargent before his value in the market dipped further, after the ex-Carrow Road fan favourite's position was made clear in no uncertain terms.
Previous reports claimed that Norwich had rejected a bid worth $18 million (£13.3 million) from Toronto for Sargent, who was also the subject of a £20 million offer from Wolfsburg last summer - where the likes of Burnley, Leeds United and undisclosed clubs in Italy were all interested, too.
Now, though, Norwich chiefs, supporters and players alike may all be happy to simply see this saga now coming to an end.
The loss of Sargent may not be keenly felt at Carrow Road, with Norwich having kicked on and lessened their long-term reliance on the American striker in recent times.

The aforementioned cup tie against Walsall, which marked the start of the saga, saw Jovon Makama net a sensational hattrick in what proved a 5-1 rout for Clement's side, and though the ex-Lincoln City starlet has now been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, January signing Mo Toure has stepped up with exceptional form after joining the Canaries.
Toure scored a hattrick of his own in only his first start for Norwich earlier this month, netting all three in City's 3-0 victory at Oxford United, with the Australian attacker having already plundered home four strikes from his opening three matches.
With Mathias Kvistgaarden also waiting in the wings, and Norwich continuing to trend upwards away from relegation trouble under Clement's popular stewardship, they have proven they can cope just fine in Sargent's absence.
