As the presidential elections near for Barcelona, tensions are beginning to rise around the club’s project and how matters could change if there is a new face at the helm.
Joan Laporta’s term so far has not been spotless, but the president has ensured to help the team get past the struggling financial situation. He has brought them back to the big stage with a strong young core and an exciting project.
Needless to say, Hansi Flick forms a big part of Laporta’s project and is his trusted man. The election results, thus, may well play a massive role in deciding the German coach’s future at the club given that he considers himself a member of Laporta’s project.
As reported by MARCA in a recent report, Hansi Flick is comfortable with having Deco and Laporta at the helm, and would be willing to even extend his stay in Catalonia if Laporta is re-elected as the president.
The manager and current president have already discussed the same but no official confirmation will be shared before July 1st when Laporta will take office once again should he win.

If a new president comes in, however, Flick will reconsider his future at the club and position as head coach. He will have a conversation with the new candidate, but at this moment it is likely he resigns and does not even complete the next year on his contract.
Presidential candidate Victor Font has already spoken openly about how he will retain Flick at the helm if he wins, but the manager is not as clear about the same from his end. Should even Font be elected, it is thus uncertain if the German coach will stay beyond this season.
There is, thus, a lot riding on the upcoming elections and what comes of it with the team’s stability, project, and management all dependent on the result. Laporta is the overwhelming favourite, but nothing is a given.
