As per a report by Football Insider, Mason is under big pressure to save his job after a dismal start to the campaign, which has left the Black Country outfit slumped 16th in the second-tier table and tasting just four victories in their last 15 league outings.

The Albion faithful have been mystified by Mason in the dugout during his short tenure so far, having an unhealthy relationship with the 34-year-old due to puzzling team selections, tactics, and in-game management.

While he has been left short by recruitment in his first full-time managerial role, there is a consensus that he should still have the team in a much better position in the table than they currently find themselves, with Mason having the first major test of his managerial career.

Further pressure could be mounting given their upcoming fixtures, with Mason’s men heading to the South Coast for a trip to Southampton this evening, before hosting another inform side on Friday night in Sheffield United.

But now, a major update has been outlined regarding Mason’s future, with the Albion hierarchy set to make a major call.

According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, the West Brom first-team players are fully behind Ryan Mason to turn the club’s fortunes around and get them rising up the second-tier table.

It has been revealed that because of the players’ backing, the Baggies board have taken it as a major vote of confidence in Mason’s abilities, and are still hopeful the ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is the man to lead the club forward.

Albion are also expected to back Mason in the upcoming January transfer window and make further additions to bolster the squad ahead of a relentless second half of the season.

Therefore, it appears there are no immediate plans in place to relieve Mason of his duties, even if they suffer two defeats over the next four days.

Majority of West Brom supporters will not be happy with Ryan Mason future outcome

As far as the majority of West Brom supporters are concerned, the start to the 2025-26 Championship season has been nothing short of disastrous, with the club currently in the middle of fighting for the play-offs or being involved in a relegation battle.

But the latter seems the most likely at the moment, with the Albion team conceding an alarming rate of goals and far too reliant on Aune Heggebo to find the back of the net regularly.

Mason drew further criticism following the defeat at Loftus Road for dropping goalkeeper Josh Griffiths for Joe Wildsmith, while commenting that his team showed “personality”, “bravery” and “quality” - an assessment that would not have been shared by the travelling fans in West London.

Meanwhile, the team have shown a lack of identity in their playing style, while Mason’s inability to draw away from a 4-2-3-1 system has led to the club losing their last six Championship games on the road.

Overall, all the Baggies’ metrics seem to be declining under Mason, and fast, and it will be interesting to see whether the West Brom hierarchy have a change of heart if they suffer a couple of heavy defeats against two of the Championship’s most inform sides.

We’ve seen in the Championship this term that even after public backing, managers haven’t had much time to turn it around.

Most recently, Norwich City owner Mark Attanasio gave Liam Manning his full backing to turn the Canaries around, but he was sacked just 11 days later after the Norfolk outfit suffered a seventh defeat in eight league matches.

One thing is for sure is that the Baggies could benefit from a change of coach and fight to get into the play-offs. The likes of Russell Martin and Michael Carrick are currently available, who have had previous experience managing in the Championship, and Albion could be missing an opportunity if the duo get snapped up later down the line.

It’s refreshing to see the Albion board and players still have the faith in a manager when results have been poor for a while, but Mason has to work consistency into the playing squad quickly if they are to avoid being dragged towards the League One trapdoor.
