Chelsea out to avoid early cup exit at home to League One opposition

The penultimate Carabao Cup second round tie sees Chelsea host Luton Town tonight.

Chelsea reached the semi-final of this competition last season, losing 4-2 on aggregate to London rivals Arsenal and a former Gunner in Jack Wilshere will be in the opposition dugout at Stamford Bridge.

Luton have made an unbeaten start to the season under Wilshere, beating Gillingham 3-0 in the last round, though they face a daunting task in west London.

The Xabi Alonso era got off to an impressive start on Monday night as Chelsea beat Fulham, with Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Morgan Rogers all on target.

It remains to be seen if any of the trio - or Enzo Fernandez - feature against Luton, but Alonso has promised to name a strong team as the cup competitions take on added importance for the Blues given they are not in Europe this season.

Chelsea have won the last five meetings with Luton, and recorded a Premier League double over the Hatters during the 2023/24 season, including a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge almost three years ago to the date.

TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on Sky Sports. Coverage starts at 7.15pm BST on Sky Sports Football ahead of kick-off at 7.30pm.
