Final place in Premier League up for grabs as Millwall target unlikely promotion

Millwall take on Hull City in the first of the Championship play-off semi-finals this evening.

The Lions cruelly missed out automatic promotion to the Premier League on the final day of the campaign as Ipswich Town secured an immediate return to the top flight after last season’s relegation.

A 2-0 win over already-relegated Oxford United was not enough for Millwall to secure their place in the Premier League next season, with Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys beating Queens Park Rangers 3-0 in a party atmosphere at Portman Road.

Coventry and Ipswich have sealed their places amongst Engand’e elite next term, but it is now down the final four in the second tier to battle it out for that final spot.

Hull snuck into the top six on the final day with a 2-1 win over Norwich City, while Derby County and Wrexham, who both had play-off hopes going into the final match, could not find the wins they both needed to extend their campaigns.
