Heimir Hallgrimsson is looking for his first home win in charge of Ireland

Ireland welcome Finland to the Aviva Stadium on Thursday with both sides still at risk of relegation to League C of the Nations League.

The Boys in Green defeated the Finns 2-1 in Helsinki just last month, with late goals from Liam Scales and Robbie Brady helping them to their first win under Heimir Hallgrimsson. A point against the same side in Dublin will see them avoid automatic relegation, but they are still extremely likely to face a relegation play-off next year.

They have lost captain Seamus Coleman, as well as Shane Duffy and Adam Idah, to injury since the squad announcement, but do have Sammie Szmodics in the squad fresh off his bicycle kick goal in Ipswich’s win at Tottenham on Sunday.

Finland travel to the Irish capital in wretched form, with just one win in their eight games this calendar year. Marrku Kanerva’s side are looking to avoid five consecutive losses for the first time in 30 years.
