FLW have compared the attendances of all three newly-relegated sides thus far

After being relegated from the Premier League at the end of 2025/26, plenty of eyes have already been cast on developments at Burnley, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In recent seasons, we have seen many newly-relegated sides mount first-time promotion bids from the Championship back to the top-flight, although last season, only Ipswich Town were successful in doing so.

However, many had pinpointed West Ham and Wolves, in particular, as promotion material even before the campaign got underway on August 14th, largely due to the strength-in-depth at both the London Stadium and Molineux.

Two of the three sides also entered the season with a change of head coach, with the Clarets eventually landing on Nicky Hayen as a replacement for Scott Parker, whilst Cesar Peixoto's appointment in the West Midlands was confirmed swiftly after the decision to sack Rob Edwards.

It has been an intriguing start to the campaign for all three clubs on the pitch, with Wolves the best-placed as we move into September, but it is also fair to say that they will be continuously backed by their passionate fanbases between now and May.

With that said, Football League World have looked at how early attendance figures at the three grounds are compared.

West Ham United have the largest attendances in this season's EFL Championship

After being relegated to the Championship for the first time in 14 years, the London Stadium plays host to second tier football for the first time this season, 10 years after the Hammers moved into the 62,500-capacity ground from Upton Park.

Despite the club's dire fortunes for most of the campaign, in which they were eventually relegated with 39 points, West Ham averaged the second-highest attendance in last season's Premier League, and it is no real surprise that the biggest stadium to host Championship matches in the modern era has, by far, the largest attendance figures even after just two matches.

Well in advance of the season beginning, it was confirmed that over 50,000 season tickets have been sold, and in a 2-1 loss to Charlton Athletic and last Tuesday's 4-2 home success over Wolves, 121,377 spectators have already passed through the turnstiles in East London.

Wolves supporters only got to witness three home wins in the Premier League last season as the club finished rock-bottom, but even thougn their loyalty has been tested, the Black Country locals have continued to back their side in a new era.

Over 20,000 season tickets had been renewed by the end of May, just one week after last season finished, with the remainder of those being snapped up by June 22nd.

Peixoto's first league match in charge, a 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers saw 30,984 spectators come through the Molineux gates to witness a chaotic Championship curtain-raiser, whilst only 550 less witnessed a 4-1 drubbing of Stoke City on August 29th.

Combining those attendances together, a total of 61,318 fans have already turned up in WV1 so far this season.

Burnley's attendance figures are unexpectedly lower than West Ham and Wolves

With Turf Moor holding the eighth-smallest capacity in this season's Championship at 21,904, it is no surprise that Burnley's attendances are far lower than that of West Ham and Wolves.
