Eddie Howe fears Fabian Schar suffered a serious injury in Newcastle’s thrilling 4-3 win over Leeds.
Schar was stretchered off during the game with an ankle injury and the Newcastle boss says he has gone to hospital.
“It doesn’t look good for Fabian,” Howe said. “He’s in hospital I believe at the moment.
“He’s got an ankle problem so it doesn’t look good for him.
“We hope it’s not as serious as it looks. We send him our love.
“He’s such an important player. He’s been incredible for us since we came to the football club. He’s been almost an ever present, he’s always put his body on the line for the team and it looks like he’s picked up a bad injury unfortunately.”
Asked for an update on fellow defenders Jamaal Lascelles and Dan Burn, Howe said: “Jamaal is okay. He’s still feeling his body is not 100% right so he’s not involved at the moment.
“Dan’s back on the grass running, so positive steps, but he’s still a few weeks away I’d say.”
Harvey Barnes scored a late winner for Newcastle to secure a dramatic 4-3 win over Leeds and Howe hailed the fighting spirit of his players.
“I said to the players after the game, I don’t want to talk about any negatives,” he said.
“That wasn’t our finest performance, we’re well aware of that, but I want to focus on the positives. The comeback win, we haven’t done that, the late goal, we haven’t done that enough. The never say die spirit, the togetherness, the unity.
“We’ve got some special players here and it’s about trying to get them in the right place to produce their best football.”
