Eddie Howe has confirmed Sandro Tonali has every chance of featuring against Burnley this weekend.

The Italian started their midweek 2-2 draw against Tottenham but was brought off at half-time after sustaining a leg injury and was replaced by Bruno Guimaraes. Howe is hopeful the midfielder will be back soon.

“He’s had a scan. We don’t think it’s too bad. We’ll give him every chance to declare himself fit, if possible.

“It was a knock very similar to what Joelinton suffered – a dead leg type feeling. We will see how he is and give him every chance to be fit.”

Sven Botman has missed the last two matches after suffering a back injury and Howe gave an update on his fitness.

“Sven has had an injection in his back,” he said. “I haven’t actually seen him personally since the Tottenham game.

“We hope that will bring about his return quite quickly. Now there’s a time period for his injection to work which I think is about a week, then we will see how he is.”

Yoane Wissa has not featured for Newcastle since joining them from Brentford in the summer because of a knee injury he got on international duty with DR Congo. Howe says he could play soon.

“He’s getting closer,” Howe said. “We did an 11 v 11 game, sort of for him on Wednesday. That was good, more minutes for him, around about half an hour, and he did well.

“We will see how he is today.”
