Hamburger SV Fußball Management’s supervisory board has issued a detailed correction of Stefan Kuntz’s account of his 31 December 2025 exit. The club said in a statement that his recent comments required clarification on three points.
Credible whistleblower accounts triggered internal investigations into numerous serious breaches of duty. The view set out was that legal timelines, staff responsibility and club values required swift action.
The claim he was uninformed or denied a hearing was described as demonstrably false. Kuntz was told of the probe on 18 December, his then lawyers received anonymised witness material on 19 December, and hearing offers for 22 and 23 December were declined.
Further dates proposed by 27 December were postponed or cancelled at his side. After changing counsel on 27 December, he requested 11:00 on 29 December, then withdrew on the eve to seek a termination discussion and did not attend. At that meeting, his new lawyers were offered a detailed review of the allegations but declined.
The view was that an amicable termination could avoid a lengthy and potentially public investigation, and that Kuntz chose to sign a termination agreement after advice from several lawyers.
Through his lawyers he proposed withdrawing a criminal complaint to keep the separation discreet. The complaint, received on 30 December, is described as demonstrably false, at least in part. The board regrets making these corrections and will not disclose specific breaches or comment on third party reports on alleged other matters.
