HSV sporting director confirms interest in Leeds defender Sebastiaan Bornauw | OneFootball

Hamburger SV sporting director Claus Costa has confirmed the club are looking at Leeds United defender Sebastiaan Bornauw, while stressing any deal is not close.

Hamburger Abendblatt has reported Bornauw is among three or four centre-backs under serious consideration. Costa, quoted by BuliNews, said: "We are familiar with both players. They are on the list of players we are looking at. It's not as if the deals are imminent, however."

HSV are seeking a replacement for Luka Vuskovic, who spent 2025/26 on loan at the Volksparkstadion before returning to Tottenham Hotspur and then joining Brighton and Hove Albion for £50m.

Leeds have shown no appetite to sell and there is no suggestion the Belgian wants to leave. Daniel Farke currently has three fit centre-backs, with Jaka Bijol nearing a return and full-back James Justin able to cover if required.

Bornauw joined last summer for around £5m and made 17 appearances in all competitions, including nine starts. With Bijol injured, he has featured regularly in pre-season.

Earlier this summer Leeds sold Pascal Struijk to Brighton for £20m and signed Bosnian international Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo for £34m.

Bijol has about two weeks to regain fitness, with three friendlies remaining. Leeds face RB Leipzig on Saturday, then Manchester United and FC Augsburg next week.
