Huddersfield Town could be set for a big summer of change after an underwhelming season in League One.

Despite sitting just one point outside the play-off places at the time, Huddersfield made the controversial decision to part company with manager Michael Duff in early March following a run of four defeats in five games.

Terriers owner Kevin Nagle opted against bringing in a permanent manager to replace Duff, instead sticking with Jon Worthington on an interim basis until the end of the season, but he has won just two and lost seven of his nine games in charge so far, with his side suffering defeat in each of their past five matches.

After their dismal run of form under Worthington, Town have dropped to 10th in the table, and they are now a huge 11 points from the top six with just one game of the season remaining.

In addition to recruiting a new manager, Nagle will also have to find a new sporting director to replace Mark Cartwright, who was dismissed earlier this month, and with seven senior players out of contract in the summer, there could be a big rebuild on the cards at the John Smith's Stadium.

Huddersfield Town concerns revealed over potential Brodie Spencer exit

When asked which player he would be the most reluctant to lose this summer, FLW's Huddersfield Town fan pundit Graeme Rayner said that the Terriers should do everything possible to keep hold of Brodie Spencer, but he admitted he expects the defender to attract interest from elsewhere.

"It's a tough one because we've had a very disappointing second half of the season, but I would probably say Brodie Spencer," Graeme said.

"I think he's one player that can give us hope for the future, and we should really be building our defence around him.

"Going forward into next season, he should be at the heart of everything we're trying to do.

"He's still young, he's come through the ranks at the club, he knows the club extremely well, and he's got bags of ability and even more potential.

"He's a good athlete, he's a good young player, and he's already got international experience for Northern Ireland.

"He very rarely puts a foot wrong, despite the fact that, for reasons outside his control, he's not necessarily played in his strongest position as often as he should.

"We should get Brodie Spencer tied down to a longer deal and keep him, but I think that's unrealistic as I think there will be clubs looking at him from a higher level, and if he does go, I wish him well."

Brodie Spencer may push for Huddersfield Town escape this summer

After being recalled from his loan spell with Scottish Premiership side Motherwell last January, Spencer has become a regular in the Huddersfield first-team, and his development has certainly been impressive over the past 18 months.

Spencer has scored three goals and provided two assists in 35 appearances for the Terriers this season, and he has been one of their most consistent performers, despite frequently playing in an unfamiliar centre-back role in recent months due to the club's defensive injury crisis.

As Graeme says, Spencer could potentially have plenty of suitors this summer, and given the uncertainty at the John Smith's Stadium, the 20-year-old may decide it is the right time to move on should he receive an attractive offer.
