Huddersfield were widely tipped as one of the promotion favourites in League One at the start of the season following a busy summer transfer window that saw the arrival of 14 new signings, including high-profile additions such as Ryan Ledson, Marcus Harness and Alfie May.

However, after an inconsistent first half of the season, the Terriers parted company with manager Lee Grant in January, despite sitting sixth in the table at the time of his departure.

Liam Manning was appointed as Grant's replacement, but he was granted compassionate leave in March, and coaches Martin Drury and Jon Stead took interim charge for the remainder of the season.

Drury and Stead were unable to guide Huddersfield into the play-offs, with Town eventually finishing ninth in the table, eight points adrift of the top six, but they did at least end the season on a positive note with a 4-0 victory at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

As the Terriers gear up for what is set to be a crucial summer, here is the latest news from the Accu Stadium.

Rangers considering move for Huddersfield Town winger Cameron Ashia

In their retained list published this week, Huddersfield announced that they had taken up their option to extend Cameron Ashia's contract by a further year, but they could still face the threat of losing the highly-rated winger.

Ashia enjoyed a breakout campaign with the Terriers this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 31 games in all competitions, but only six of those appearances came from the start, much to the frustration of some sections of the fanbase.

Despite not being a regular starter for Town, the Daily Mail claimed in March that Ashia was attracting significant interest from elsewhere ahead of the summer transfer window, with Scottish duo Rangers and Hearts among those keeping tabs on him, along with a number of Championship clubs.

It seems that Rangers are still weighing up a potential move for Ashia, with TEAMtalk reporting this week that the 19-year-old is on the club's list of potential midfield reinforcements, although Hacken's Silas Anderson and Kilmarnock's David Watson are also under consideration.

The Gers have a track record of recruiting from the EFL in recent times, with Emmanuel Fernandez and Thelo Aasgaard joining the Glasgow giants from Peterborough United and Luton Town respectively last summer, and Ashia could be the next player to depart a League One club for Ibrox.

Ex-Plymouth Argyle man Mickel Miller departs Huddersfield Town

After missing out on the play-offs for a second consecutive season, there is expected to be plenty of change at Huddersfield this summer, but with many players still under contract, there were few high-profile exits on the club's retained list.

In fact, winger Mickel Miller was the only first-team departure announced by the Terriers this week, with the West Yorkshire outfit opting against offering him a new deal.

Miller joined Town in the summer of 2024 after his departure from Plymouth Argyle, but he endured a frustrating two-year spell at the Accu Stadium, with persistent injury problems limiting him to 37 appearances in total, during which he failed to score and registered just six assists.

The 30-year-old featured for Huddersfield for the final time as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Cardiff City last month, and while he may have been the only one released, he is unlikely to be the last senior player heading out of the exit door.

Huddersfield may have finished the season on a high with a comprehensive 4-0 win at AFC Wimbledon last weekend, but that will have done little to ease the anger of supporters after another turbulent campaign.

Terriers owner Kevin Nagle is certainly not afraid of sharing his views, and the American took to social media once again after the club's season came to a close with victory against the Dons, expressing his regret at how the campaign had unfolded and promising that work is already underway to deliver the necessary improvements.

"This season was a disappointment, no doubt," Nagle wrote on X.

"But I DO want to commend the players and staff for their efforts today.

"Most of all, I really want to express my appreciation to the nearly 1,000 Town fans for making the long trip down this afternoon. Amazing.

"Getting to work immediately.
