West Ham have two obvious options to chase as alternatives to Reiss Nelson

West Ham’s transfer business is starting to pick up as we quickly approach the first game of the new league season.

The Hammers suffered relegation from the Premier League in the previous campaign, finishing 18th in the table under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The London outfit will be targeting promotion from the Championship in 2026/27, as they seek to return to the top flight at the first attempt.

The club have added Joel Veltman and Manor Solomon to the squad, as well as Keiber Lamadrid, but there could be further additions between now and the 1 September deadline.

West Ham have been linked with a move for Reiss Nelson, with The Standard reporting that talks with Arsenal are currently underway.

However, here we look at two alternative options the Irons should consider in case a deal for the winger doesn’t advance…

West Ham have been linked with a move for Sunderland forward Simon Adingra as an option to bolster their left flank.

If the Hammers are unable to secure the signing of Nelson, then the Ivory Coast international would be a sensible alternative.

The 24-year-old made 14 appearances in the Premier League last season for the Black Cats, including nine starts, before going out on loan to Monaco, where he again made 14 league appearances.

The left-winger has a lot of top flight experience, having also played 60 times in the Premier League with Brighton.

It remains to be seen whether he would be willing to drop down to the Championship, but he could be a smart option to add to the squad after the signing of Solomon from Tottenham Hotspur.

While it was a struggle for him at the Black Cats, Adingra was an excellent addition for Monaco.

The forward had a combined expected goals and expected assists (xG+xA) of 0.47 per 90, and he took 2.30 shots while creating 1.36 chances for others each game (all stats from Fotmob).

He was a dangerous threat in the final third, ultimately contributing three goals and two assists.

If he could repeat that kind of form in the second tier with the London outfit, then he could prove a key figure in their promotion push this season.

Jaden Philogene helped Ipswich Town gain promotion to the Premier League last season, scoring 12 times and registering two assists.

However, the forward is reportedly seeking an exit from Portman Road this summer, and the Tractor Boys are open to permanent offers.

While it’s unclear if the winger would drop back down to the second tier, West Ham should look to complete a deal to sign the 24-year-old.

Philogene has proven himself at a Championship level, and he was a top performer for the Suffolk outfit in their second place finish last season.

He contributed an xG+xA of 0.33 per 90, while also taking 3.11 shots and creating 1.17 chances.

The 24-year-old had 1.58 dribbles each game at a success rate of 40.7 per cent, and he was consistently getting touches in the opposition area at 4.78 per 90.

Someone of his attacking threat would make for a great alternative to Nelson, if a deal with Arsenal cannot be agreed.
