Karlan Grant excelled at Huddersfield Town after joining the Terriers from Charlton Athletic before moving to West Brom for a handsome fee.

Huddersfield Town have endured a rollercoaster of a journey in recent seasons, following their promotion to the Premier League in 2017.

The Terriers defied the odds to remain in the top flight at the end of the 2017-18 season, but by 2019, the West Yorkshire club found themselves in the Championship once again.

Huddersfield struggled in the bottom half for two consecutive seasons after returning to the second tier, but by 2022, they reached the play-off final, where they were beaten by Nottingham Forest.

Then, the Terriers faithful suffered further heartache in 2024, when they were relegated to League One following a disastrous Championship campaign which saw the Accu Stadium club finish 23rd.

Throughout their ups and downs, Huddersfield have enjoyed the services of several talented players, including former Charlton Athletic ace Karlan Grant.

Grant proved his class when plying his trade for his former club Charlton, notching 14 goals and four assists in 28 League One appearances back in the first half of the 2018/19 season.

Those efforts convinced Huddersfield, then struggling in the Premier League, to acquire the forward in January 2019.

Grant could not prevent the Terriers from suffering relegation back to the Championship, despite managing a respectable return of four goals in 13 top-flight appearances.

The former Cambridge United man made his Huddersfield debut in a 5-0 away defeat to Chelsea, and scored his first goal for the Terriers in a 2-1 home loss against Arsenal.

Grant went on to shine for the West Yorkshire club in the 2019/20 Championship season, scoring 19 goals and producing four assists in 43 second-tier outings.

Former Terriers boss Danny Cowley highlighted Grant's class when he told Yorkshire Live back in 2020: "Karlan will always be a very, very important player to us. His goal record speaks for itself."

The former Crawley man's exploits at the Accu Stadium in the 2019/20 campaign attracted interest from West Brom, who signed him ahead of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

As reported by Sky Sports, Grant joined the Baggies for £15million, making his return of one goal in 21 Premier League appearances for the Black Country side particularly disappointing.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield hit the jackpot when they signed the forward from Charlton, as he excelled in West Yorkshire before his eventual move to West Brom.

While Huddersfield have overwhelmingly positive memories of Grant, his West Brom career has witnessed plenty of ups and downs.

The forward's return of just one goal in the 2020/21 Premier League campaign was a major contributing factor towards his side's relegation back to the Championship.

Grant went on to reignite his positive form throughout the 2021/22 Championship season, notching 18 goals and seven assists in 44 second-tier appearances.

However, by the summer of 2023, the ex-Charlton star's Baggies career could have been over, as he joined Cardiff City on loan for the 2023/24 season.

Grant has appeared for West Brom in both the 2024/25 and 2025/26 Championship seasons, but he is yet to reignite the sort of form he showed in his first second-tier season for the Baggies, or the strong performances he showed for Huddersfield.
