Huddersfield Town are targeting a loan for Sunderland prospect Matty Young, while Wrexham and Millwall are exploring a move for Anthony Patterson.

According to Alan Nixon, Huddersfield are plotting a swoop for the 19-year-old ahead of the 2026-27 season, with Sunderland vetting potential loan destinations and Huddersfield expected to get the nod.

Young is highly rated at the Stadium of Light and has senior minutes with Darlington and Salford City. He helped Salford reach last season’s League Two play-off final, starting at Wembley in a 3-0 defeat to Notts County. He has caps at under-18, under-19 and under-20 level and was called into the under-21s last year.

A move would bolster Huddersfield’s options, having borrowed Owen Goodman from Crystal Palace last summer to compete with Lee Nicholls before a mid-season switch to Barnsley. Their current goalkeeping group comprises Nicholls, Jak Alnwick, Jacob Chapman and Nik Tzanev.

The report also says Wrexham have joined Millwall in showing interest in Patterson, who is said to carry an £8million to £10million valuation if he departs permanently. Both clubs are understood to be eyeing a loan, and Patterson spent the second half of last season away from Sunderland.

Wrexham’s pursuit could affect Arthur Okonkwo, with suggestions the club may move him on if they land Patterson. Sunderland’s goalkeeping ranks are drawing attention on two fronts, with Young likely to head out on loan again and Patterson’s situation one to watch.
