As the end of the summer transfer window approaches, Huddersfield Town will be hoping to fend off interest in in-demand striker Joe Taylor.

After a strong start to the season, Taylor's list of suitors is increasing ahead of Tuesday's 11pm transfer deadline, and an anxious few days could be ahead for Huddersfield as they attempt to keep hold of their star man.

Taylor joined Huddersfield from Luton Town for a reported fee of over £3 million in January 2025, but he endured a tough first year at the Accu Stadium as he scored just nine goals.

After falling out of favour under then manager Lee Grant, Taylor was loaned out to fellow League One side Wigan Athletic in January, and he rediscovered his form during a prolific spell at the Brick Community Stadium, scoring 11 goals in 22 games to help the Latics to survival.

With Martin Drury now in charge of the Terriers, Taylor has been brought back into the fold following his return from Lancashire, and he has made an impressive start to the season, netting three goals and providing one assist in his first four appearances of the new campaign.

Taylor's latest crucial contribution for Town came in Saturday's 2-1 win over Cambridge United, with the 23-year-old scoring two late goals, including an 89th-minute winner from the penalty spot, to earn an important three points for his side.

When asked about Taylor's future this week, Drury admitted that he could not guarantee that the striker would not depart before the window slams shut, but he insisted that "every single person at the club" is keen for him to stay.

However, it seems Huddersfield may need to brace themselves for offers for Taylor, with journalist Pete O'Rourke reporting on Sunday that he is on the radar of Belgian outfit KAA Gent and "several" Championship sides in the closing stages of the window.

When asked for his thoughts on Taylor's situation, FLW's Huddersfield Town fan pundit Graeme Rayner insisted that the Terriers should demand at least £5 million for their talisman, and he urged the club not to cash in on him before Tuesday's deadline.

"I'm not going to put a price on Joe Taylor because I don't think the club should sell him," Graeme told FLW.

"He's started the season in really good form, he's scored three goals and got one assist in three league games, and he also had a goal disallowed that was clearly about half a yard over the line.

"He's been pivotal to our strong start to the season.

"With so little time left in the transfer window, the chances of us replacing him with someone who can hit the ground running and give us what he's giving us are extremely low.

"In my view, the club should be bold and not sell him.

"However, everyone has a price, so I would say the club should accept no less than £5 million.

"That's more than he's worth in terms of his value as a player on paper, but it's more important to us that he stays and helps us get promoted to the Championship.

"Therefore, due to the loss of revenue or value if he goes and we don't achieve that, I'd say £5 million or go and find someone else to anyone who's interested in him.

"That probably sounds dramatic, but that would be where I would be if I was in charge of the club at the moment.

"He's too important to us, and he's proven at the start of this season, under a new manager, that he can contribute extremely well.

"He didn't score in the first game, but he made our opening goal and was superb for the first half and got taken off for tactical reasons after we went down to 10 men.

"He was great last week against MK Dons, and we should have won that game with his contributions.

"He was brilliant on Saturday (against Cambridge) at helping us rescue three points from staring down the barrel of defeat.

"We shouldn't sell him, and we need to put a silly price on him to put clubs off."

Taylor's stock was already high after his successful loan spell at Wigan last season, and his value will have increased even further after his bright start to the new campaign, so Huddersfield may be able to command a fee in the region of £5 million.

However, after a difficult start to life at the Accu Stadium, Taylor is finally starting to deliver in a Terriers shirt, and if he can maintain his current form, there is no doubt that he could be one of the most dangerous strikers in League One this season.

Having paid £3 million for him last January, Town would likely make a profit on Taylor if they were to sell him before the end of the window, but keeping hold of him would give them a much greater chance of achieving promotion, so the West Yorkshire outfit should resist the temptation to cash in over the coming days, even if they receive a sizeable bid.
