Hugo Guillamón has joined Sporting de Gijón on a free transfer, signing until 2028, and will lead Nicolás Larcamón’s midfield in Spain’s second tier. The 26-year-old returns after a season with HNK Hajduk Split.

It is the club’s fifth summer addition as they build towards a push for promotion. According to Superdeporte, Guillamón becomes their most high-profile arrival following striker Dubasin’s move to Osasuna, having spent six seasons at Valencia.

The San Sebastián-born midfielder has agreed a two-year contract to 2028, with an optional extra year. Valencia had retained 50% of any future sale, but he arrives as a free agent after ending his deal with Hajduk.

Guillamón landed at around 10am at Asturias Airport, checked in at a Gijón hotel, then completed medical and fitness tests.

Luis Enrique featured in the unveiling, a nod to the call-up that took him to the 2022 World Cup. The new signing said there was no better introduction. He played only 26 games in Croatia and now targets a bigger role back in Spain.
