In the last year of his contract, Hugo Moura has been restored to Vasco’s starting side under Renato, though his future at São Januário remains uncertain.
According to Globo.com, the midfielder has started all four matches since the new coach arrived, having slipped to the bench under Fernando Diniz. At the club since 2024, he can sign a pre-contract with another team from July.
Last season he was a Diniz trusted pick, starting 26 of the first 30 games, missing four only through suspension. He later lost his place, with Tchê Tchê and Thiago Mendes moving ahead, and is now part of a midfield trio with them.
The shift came as Renato picked him immediately against Palmeiras, then praised his contribution after the win. He highlighted knowing the player from Flamengo, pointed to Palmeiras’ aerial threat and said Hugo’s strength in the air suited the defensive plan.
Renato coached him at Flamengo in 2021 but did not use him, the player stayed on the bench for four games. With the window open he joined Lugano on loan at Abel Braga’s request, but after ownership upheaval both were released about a month later. Returning to Flamengo after the window had closed, Hugo could not be registered and only trained during Renato’s tenure.
