Hugo Ribeiro, Grêmio’s head scout, has asked to leave the club. Announced in December, the Portuguese had a contract until five May and chose not to stay on.

GZH first reported that he had been unable to move his family to Brazil and would return to his homeland.

Grêmio are already in talks with a new hire to lead the scouting operation, with the name kept under wraps and an announcement planned shortly.

Lisbon-born Ribeiro arrived in January to head the analysis and market department. He replaced Fernando Lázaro, who is now working with the Peru national team alongside Mano Menezes.

His appointment had been endorsed by Luís Castro, with the intention of aligning the coaching staff’s approach with the scouting unit that maps potential signings.
