Hugo Souza, a leading figure at Corinthians, is considering a return to Europe after the 2026 World Cup, which begins on 11 June. The club are aware and would only sanction a move if a deal benefits their finances.

According to Globo.com, the goalkeeper, previously with Chaves in Portugal, still aims to play at the highest level in Europe and has shared that wish privately. His preference is to join a major side in one of the continent’s top leagues.

In the last window, Milan and Besiktas of Türkiye made offers, but Corinthians judged the bids below their valuation. At that point Hugo felt a move could jeopardise his World Cup place because of the need to adapt.

Inside the club, there is a view he could yet change his stance if Dorival Júnior’s side deliver convincing performances. He is settled and aware he could build a long career at Parque São Jorge, yet recent approaches have revived his European ambition.

Hugo Souza is under contract until 31 December 2029. Corinthians hold 60% of his economic rights and his release clause for foreign clubs stands at €100 million, about R$ 652 million at today’s rate.

He has made 104 appearances for the club. His honours are the Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil in 2025, and the Supercopa do Brasil in 2026.
