Hugo Souza credits Corinthians for call-up, shows eternal gratitude

A standout for Corinthians since being signed in July of last year, Hugo Souza has caught the attention of the Brazilian National Team and has been called up by Carlo Ancelotti. During this FIFA date, the goalkeeper will face Japan and South Korea, becoming unavailable for Timão in the classic match against Santos.

For the goalkeeper, the magnitude of Timão influences the call-ups. “For sure, I have no doubt about it, because I think everything that happens, everything involving Corinthians is very big, and the impact is huge, both for the good and the bad. And this helped me a lot because I was able to help the club and be helped as well. Because the club is very big, the club is bigger than everything, so by doing things for the club, I think things come back to us,” said the player to TNT Sports.

“I have eternal gratitude to Corinthians because it is the club that embraced me when I needed it most in my career, where I was literally without a club, and they embraced me. Fabinho gave me the opportunity to wear this jersey and the fans always embraced me. I fight every day to give my best here and I think these things have come back in some way,” the player added.

For Corinthians, Hugo Souza was a decisive player in winning this year's Paulistão title, saving a penalty in the grand final. His penalty saves were considered important by the National Team coach, who is considering taking a specialist to the 2026 World Cup.
