Hugo Souza hails Corinthians' display: "Great match"

Corinthians defeated Atlético-MG in a direct clash at the bottom of the table and moved away from the relegation zone. For Hugo Souza, who had little work during the match, the score could have been wider than 1-0, due to the performance shown over the 90 minutes.

“The game was 1-0, but modesty aside, if the score had been 2 or 3, I think it would have been fair. So I have to congratulate the whole team for the game we played. We played a great match, we neutralized their team the entire time. They didn't have any clear chances to score. So I have to congratulate the team for the game they played today.” said the goalkeeper in the mixed zone.

“And now we have to work hard so we can maintain this standard in every match, not keep oscillating. We know the quality we have. We know what we can deliver on the field. And today was a game where we managed to do everything we trained for. And thank God we came away with the win.” he added.

The team coached by Dorival Júnior was criticized after the loss to Santos at Vila Belmiro, with a lackluster collective performance. Hugo Souza was not present for the derby, but spoke about the internal conversation among the squad after the negative result.

“We worked, understood the points we needed to improve. We talked among ourselves. We realized we needed to close ranks a bit more to better understand what the game demanded. Corinthians’ next fixture is this weekend, against Vitória, for the 30th round of the Brasileirão. After the first leg was at Neo Química Arena, the match will take place at Barradão, in Salvador-BA, on Saturday, at 4pm (Brasília time).
