Hugo Souza leads Copa do Brasil clean sheets for Corinthians

Corinthians defeated Flamengo 2-0, showcasing effectiveness in attack and a solid defense, which also led the team to the Supercopa Rei competition. One of the highlights of the match was Hugo Souza, who went another decisive game without conceding a goal, being the Serie A goalkeeper with the most knockout matches without conceding since joining Timão.

According to a survey by Sofascore, Hugo Souza has accumulated 27 knockout matches since arriving at Parque São Jorge. In these matches, only 15 goals were conceded, with 80 saves made during this period. Of this number, 45 were shots from inside the box, totaling an 84% success rate of defended shots and 17 games without conceding a goal.

One of Hugo's main attributes is his penalty saves, which even make him a contender for the World Cup this year. In knockout matches, he has saved eight penalties, six of which were in shootouts. One of those during regular time occurred in the Paulistão final, from a shot by Raphael Veiga, securing the alvinegro title.

Corinthians may still have three more knockout competitions this season. Besides the Copa do Brasil, which is an elimination tournament from the start, Timão is also trying to secure a spot in the second phase of the Paulistão and will play in the Libertadores, which has a group stage before becoming a knockout tournament from the round of 16.
