Hull City defender Nobel Mendy will miss Saturday’s trip to Newcastle as he continues to follow concussion protocols after suffering a head injury against Chelsea.

Mendy was taken to hospital for assessment after a collision with Joao Pedro at Stamford Bridge, but boss Sergej Jakirovic says the defender is recovering well.

“He’s in concussion protocol,” Jakirovic said. “He’ll have seven days off after this and then he will go to national team.

“Everything is fine, this is the most important. He will miss this game.”

Hull could also be without Matt Targett against his former club after the left-back hurt his ankle in training.

“Targett two days ago twisted his ankle so he is questionable,” Jakirovic added. “We will see tomorrow.”

Hidemasa Morita remains sideline, while Charlie Hughes is also progressing in his recovery from a pubic bone issue and has resumed individual work on the grass.

“I hope in the next two weeks he can join the group training,” Jakirovic said.

“We are very cautious with him and unfortunately right now he cannot help the team.”
