Hull City have been dealt a blow as recently recalled defender Matty Jacob has suffered an MCL injury.

Jacob spent the first half of the season on loan at Reading in League One, making 16 appearances for Leam Richardson’s side.

He was recalled by Hull City in January and had made six appearances for his parent club before suffering this setback.

The injury occurred during training, and manager Sergej Jakirovic said: “We do have a problem though with Matty Jacob. Matty had a non contact injury in Tuesday’s training session and there is an MCL grade two injury, so we will lose him for six to eight weeks. It means we have lost an option at left full-back.”

Hull City will also be without their new addition Toby Collyer for a couple of weeks, but in some good news, Matt Crooks, Eliot Matazo and Semi Ajayi are all nearing returns.

Jakirovic said: “Crooksy looks like he will be available for Portsmouth away, Semi Ajayi, next week he will start group training with us.

“Eliot Matazo is back training with the group, but not in contact. He will start contact next week and we will try get him some minutes with the Under-21s. We are very happy he is back in training with us.”
