FA Cup tie sees Blues travel to Humberside
Liam Rosenior’s men progressed past Charlton Athletic 5-1 in the third round at The Valley in Rosenior’s first game at the helm since arriving from Strasbourg.
The Blues were held to a 2-2 by Leeds United in their last outing in the Premier League on Tuesday, with Daniel Farke’s side coming back from 2-0 down to salvage a share of the spoils at Stamford Bridge.
Now, Rosenior travels to one of his former clubs, Hull, where he cut his teeth in senior management.
The Chelsea boss guided the Tigers to within an inch of the Championship play-offs in the 2023-24 season, and was harshly dismissed by the Hull hierarchy at the end of the campaign.
He moved to France to take over at Strasbourg that sumnmer, and spent a year and a half with the Ligue 1 side before returning to his homeland.
Hull, meanwhile, are flying in the second tier, fourth in the table and on-course for the play-offs.
Sergej Jakirovic has overseen the Humberside outfit’s rise, with the Tigers unbeaten in their last six games before their defeat by Bristol City last time out.
Hull vs Chelsea is scheduled for a 7.45pm GMT kick-off on Friday, February 13, 2026.
The match will take place at MKM Stadium.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on BBC One and TNT Sports 1, with coverage starting at 7pm GMT ahead of the 7.45pm kick off.
Live stream: TNT Sports subscribers can also catch the contest live online via the Discovery+ app and website, and you can also watch the match for free on BBC iPlayer, with a valid TV licence.
Live blog: You can follow all the action on matchday via Standard Sport’s live blog, with expert analysis from Dom Smith at the ground.
For Chelsea, the headline news is that captain Reece James returned to training after illness kept him out of the recent games against Wolves and Leeds, although Rosenior did not confirm that the right-back would definitely play a part against Hull, saying that the England international was “still under the weather”.
Marc Cucurella will miss out with a hamstring problem, while Rosenior did confirm that Mamadou Sarr, recalled from his loan spell at Strasbourg, would definitely feature in some capacity.
Deputy goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen could return in goal after recovering from a knock, while centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo also made a comeback to training after his hamstring issue.
Winger Jamie Gittens tore his hamstring against West Ham, but there could be a boost for Rosenior with Romeo Lavia making his return to the grass.
As for Hull, Charlie Hughes and Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer are both doubts, although Cody Drameh, the former Leeds right-back, is back in training.
Jakirovic could then turn to his new signings - the likes of Paddy McNair, Kieran Dowell, Lewis Koumas and Yu Hirakawa - to plug some gaps and step up to the plate against their Premier League opponents.
Despite Hull’s good form in the Championship and Rosenior’s sentimentality for the club, you would think that Chelsea would emerge victorious here.
They were ruthless in their thrashing of Charlton on Rosenior’s debut, and you would expect them to not hold back here, especially with a statement needing to be made after a poor collapse against Leeds.
Hull, especially at home, will be a tricky test, but it should be one that the Blues can pass with flying colours.
